Crafty (Winter) Wonderland

Let's hear a round of applause for all you brave souls who ventured out onto Sunday's icy, snow-packed Portland roads for the Crafty Wonderland Super Colossal Holiday Show this past weekend! What troopers. The weather obviously would've preferred that all transportation be made completely impossible for anyone with CW shopping plans on this big day, but thanks to Portland's superrrrb public transportation system (and a good portion of the city well-equipped with chained tires), the event had, actually, an impressive turnout of shoppers considering the circumstances.

This year, the CWSCHS (how's that for an acronym?) was held at the Oregon Convention Center in an super-spacious, 2,000-person-capacity cement box of a room. Colossal Holiday Show -- they're not kidding. After the booths of 180 vendors were all set up, the loading dock's garage door was shut, the heat was cranked up, and a happy-to-be-there crowd of eager shoppers waiting outside the door were let loose into the room. I was handed an egg nog latte, and the day began.

Thank you for coming!
