Crafty (Winter) Wonderland

Let's hear a round of applause for all you brave souls who ventured out onto Sunday's icy, snow-packed Portland roads for the Crafty Wonderland Super Colossal Holiday Show this past weekend! What troopers. The weather obviously would've preferred that all transportation be made completely impossible for anyone with CW shopping plans on this big day, but thanks to Portland's superrrrb public transportation system (and a good portion of the city well-equipped with chained tires), the event had, actually, an impressive turnout of shoppers considering the circumstances.

This year, the CWSCHS (how's that for an acronym?) was held at the Oregon Convention Center in an super-spacious, 2,000-person-capacity cement box of a room. Colossal Holiday Show -- they're not kidding. After the booths of 180 vendors were all set up, the loading dock's garage door was shut, the heat was cranked up, and a happy-to-be-there crowd of eager shoppers waiting outside the door were let loose into the room. I was handed an egg nog latte, and the day began.

Thank you for coming!

Urban Craft... Uprisen!

click photo to enlarge

Thank you to everyone who came out to Urban Craft Uprising in Seattle this past weekend! The whole weekend was - seriously - a lot of fun, and both Saturday and Sunday were a screeeeaming success. A spit in the face of the gloomy economy.

I shared a booth space with my sister Amy of Adorn Jewelry, and this year was our third UCU. This year? By far, the best. The best vendors, the best energy, the biggest crowds, the most fun, and with the most friendly of fans. We've been told Saturday's attendance to the event was over 4,000, and Sunday's was over 3,000. WOW.

Perhaps it's a silver lining of the recession ... a shift in shopper's attitudes towards buying locally, supporting independent designers, and buying more meaningful gifts this holiday season. No matter your mindset or reason for your support, thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

So this week, Amy and I are back to being whirling dervishes, gearing up for our next big holiday show, the Crafty Wonderland Super Colossal Holiday Show in Portland. It's this Sunday, December 14th from 11am to 7 pm at the Oregon Convention Center. Hope to see you there!

Bumbershoot this weekend!

Hey, SEATTLEites! Going to Bumbershoot this weekend?
The wonderful folks at Etsy have asked my sister Amy (of Adornjewelry.etsy.com) and I to sell in the Etsy booth on Sunday. We'll be in the Indie Market section near the International Fountain. Christina and Eric B. of Etsy will be there too, singing Etsy's praises, so stop by and say hi to all of us!

P.S. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Etsy, for the invitation!

What are you wearing?

I recently started a Flickr group called "I'm wearing Orange Peel Enamel!" for anyone to post pictures of themselves wearing their favorite Orange Peel jewelry.

Come on, show us that pretty face!
Join the group and add a photo to the pool.

[No Flickr account? Attach your image to an Etsy conversation and send it to me, and I'll add it to the photopool on your behalf.]
